“Youth and Sports”: The launch of the Egyptian International Pharaonic Marathon in Luxor, with the participation of 350 runners from 32 countries
The marathon starts in front of the Temple of Hatshepsut and passes the most prominent tourist and archaeological sites in Luxor

The activities of the 29th session of the Pharaonic Egypt International Marathon, which will be held in Luxor Governorate under the auspices and supervision of the Sports Tourism Department at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the General Authority for Tourism Activation, and Luxor Governorate, started in the early hours of this Friday morning.
350 runners from 32 foreign nationalities participated in the marathon, including Egypt, America, Japan, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, England, Sweden, Finland, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Palestine, Morocco “Foreigners participating in the marathon represent about 70% of the total number of participants, and competitors from America come first in terms of the largest number of participants, followed by participants from Japan.
The Egypt International Marathon in Luxor is considered the oldest race held in Africa and the Middle East. The race started from the Temple of Hatshepsut in Deir el-Bahri, heading to Medinet Habu, then the Colossi of Memnon, all the way to the Valley of the Kings Road on the western mainland, then heading to the Temple of Seti I and back again to the Temple of Hatshepsut at the end of the race. The marathon received great attention from the international media.
For his part, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, stressed the diversity of international events and sports tourism events that the ministry is keen to establish in cooperation with various concerned authorities throughout the year in light of the revitalization of the sports tourism movement, and to benefit from the role of sports in promoting the tourist and archaeological monuments that characterize Egypt. globally.
The minister pointed out that all possibilities and equipment are available for the various sporting events and international tournaments hosted by Egypt with the participation of foreign delegations from different countries of the world, and the follow-up of the organizing committees for these events; To provide everything necessary to achieve success, and to amaze the participants with the organizational level and the landmarks they see while they are on the land of Egypt participating in these events.
While the participants expressed their great happiness with the Egyptian International Pharaonic Marathon and their passing during the race with the most prominent monuments that characterize Luxor Governorate, and the good organization of all events and the establishment of the sports marathon in a wonderful atmosphere.
The marathon was witnessed by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Qader, Deputy Governor of Luxor and a number of governorate leaders, Ahmed Abdel Khaleq, Director of Sports Tourism at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Salah Rashwan, Director of Youth and Sports Directorate in Luxor, Major General Jasser Riyad, event organizer, and Mohsen Abdel Maaboud, Executive Director of the marathon.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Youth and Sports implements a set of international sports tourism events at the level of all governorates of the Republic, according to an agenda of international events that includes a variety of events such as sports marathons, open swimming, bicycle and motorcycle races, parachute jumping, adventure sports, and other activities that It is supervised by the Sports Tourism Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
